It could be cool if they implemented touch into iOS (or whatever). When I first heard about it, I was imagining they'd have some dashboard like space for the iOS apps. Not so sure I'd want to keep my arms and hands in the air for while I'm surfing, though. I'm really hoping that this rumor turns into some sort of cool implementation of AppleTV, taking it out of the hobby category. I just love the concept of AppleTV. I hope that architecture of watching TV wins out. I'd rather take Comcast out of the equation somehow, at least for the TV part.

I can't see 3D, so I guess I wouldn't get to experience the "magic." Poo.
Uh, isn't the world in 3D? I mean, we do see in three dimensions, correct? Is this a clever way of saying you are blind?

Emotional appeals on their own mean nothing.
Top 10 defense contractors employ over 1 million people. If you cut their federal contracts by 40%, how many people will they have to lay off, 40%? 30% 20%. Do the math. Defense cuts need to be slow and steady over many years so we can absorb these workers.
The root of our problems is healthcare. We have to fix healthcare, get costs under control and stop placing this burden on our businesses. It is simply ludicrous that we rank so low in health statistics worldwide while spending SO much more than they do.

It doesn't seem silly to me at all. What is the point of upgrading...It certainly is silly. People UPGRADING to Vista, as you just said, aren't going to buy the full retail $399 box. That's stupid. They are going to buy the Upgrade or oem.
It's true that retail box upgrades are a small fraction of Windows sales, but this only goes to show how wary Windows users are of upgrading, and that the vast majority will only buy into the newest version of Windows when it comes pre-installed on a new PC -- IOW, when they have no other choice.
One of the many ironies here is that we're forever hearing about how Apple shafts their customers with high prices, but when Microsoft does it in an even more naked and obvious way, people fall all over themselves to excuse it. Now that's silly!I think M$FT completely sucks as a company. They are a necessary evil that I can deal with (just like many other corporations) and if they piss me off too much I will stop purchasing their products like I've done with other companies.
The problem with so many Mac appologists is that they are incapable of having an honest debate. You and snowy could rightly argue against the $259 upgrade price of Vista Ultimate or the ~$180 OEM price of Vista ultimate but you don't. You and others like you would rather be disingenous and go on and on about the $399 retail box version that very few will buy.
If people are upgrading from XP to Vista they will buy the software at the upgrade price or the oem price.

This Constitutional issue is something of a moot point... Congress has only declared war FIVE times in the history of the country (the War of 1812, Mexican-American, Spanish-American, WWs I&II). There are 125 occasions where the President has acted with no approval from Congress. Also, the War Powers Resolution is essentially valid, as it has never been tested by courts.
In my personal view, I'm fine with the president being able to enact a limited amount of military action, as long as there are no long-term liabilities for the country. Congress is so juvenile, inefficient, and bitchy that I'm fine with not having to rely on them every time there is a clear humanitarian need to act.

So to all of you who said Conroe would be in iMacs -
*points and laughs*
:p
Well, don't put back your camera just yet. If I recall it correct, you never set any time limit when you made your bold statement about Conroe in iMac. My guess is that Conroe eventually will arrive in iMacs...and when it does... we do (sort of) look forward to your promised homemovie. :D

The thumbprint thing might turn some people off, but just downloading the latest issue of whatever magazine you want to your iPod at the newsagency... mmh! :)

No kidding. So much for the "everyone already owns all The Beatles songs they want" mantra. ;)
The iTunes stuff is very good quality. I went and bought several tunes that I didn't have from the re-mastered stuff.
lady bla bla has some talent. you have to have some to get admitted to juliard and NYU. even madonna had a good musical education before she hit the clubs in the 1980's
if you haven't seen this yet, it's lady bla bla a year or so before she hit it big
Ga ga seems to be more , much more, talented that Madonna though. Madonna = tone def.
The Beatles: Four guys who needed each other, because individually they were musical infants.
No, thanks.
The single worst summation of The Beatles. Ever. You don't deserve to hear them.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)
I thought no one cared...
I posted this on the Decemberists forum and it also got mixed reviews.
Although I have most of their stuff, from first CD's released in '87, I don't have all the re-masters recently issued. Like I said above it is nice to be able to click and shop if need be. ;)

att won't have LTE for at least 12 months, so if you are going by carrier then there is a hole in your tarp. or they can do what they did a year or 2 ago with att, remember the 3g or was it the 3gs?. regardless they included the chip to accommodate the "3.75G" ATT speeds even though it wasn't implemented yet. im just hoping that this doesnt turn into a big mess

Since when did you get to make the rules? How can we possibly have a useful discussion about race and crime if we can't talk about some of the basic underlying causes for the disparity in wealth and political power in America between white people and everybody else? Why should we forget the 3/5ths clause, Dred Scott, the Civil War, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights movement or the KKK and its children. Not to mention the slave trade that brought these people here in the first place. You might not like to talk about all those things, but you are flat out ignoring or dismissing their impact on current issues - and that is the fatal flaw in your reasoning.
So again with the boohoo sob stories of past discrimination that young blacks today have never felt? They are put at an advantage over whites today and have been for the last 40 years. And once again, you say nothing about other countries that have the same issue and no racial history like the US has, i've already asked you twice to acknowledge this and look at it in a more global way, and you keep mentioning slavery and jim crow laws which affected a tiny percentage of africans worldwide a long time ago. stop thinking only within the borders of the US. Not only do they commit a disproportionate amount of the crime in mostly white countries , they can't even seem to run their own countries in Africa without violence. WHY???? Quit it with the politically correct "the white man is bringing the black race down" BS and look at it realistically.

(ahem) There IS a difference. Photoshop is far more advanced that Pixelmator for P-R-O-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L work. It has a deeper set of tools and features available. Why do you think it's expensive? For one, it has many plug-ins and filters built in that come from third party developers.
Why do I think it is expensive? Actually I think the cost goes up in direct relation to their douche bag-e-ness.
Citing third party filters and plug-ins as a cost factor is bogus. For one it points to their severe lack of creative growth and foresight (even they choose to swallow someone else's work and bundle it in). Most importantly if the solutions remain third party they are paid for in addition to the cost of the basic app itself by the consumer.
I have been working in this field for over 25 years now, and have taught advanced imaging to other professional designers and photographers. Very little has fundamentally been altered in terms of workflow since the early days. And, that is not a good thing. I am not saying there have not been advancements, but I could probably list the the real significant ones on two hands total. Compare those with the total cost of each upgrade and the number would be substantial. The trend for most things is to push costs down (except maybe for cable, phone, etc.). Maybe Adobe thinks they are a utility now, and deserve a fixed amount each month?
Buy whatever tool works for you period. Just because you are a "pro" (or aspire to be one) doesn't mean you have to use the so-called "professional" tool. I hear that argument all the time trying to pressure folks into a MacPro, over an iMac. For many folks the iMacs are the smart buy and provide more than ample horsepower and speed to suit their needs (at more than half the cost).

Having spent a fair amount of time living in a rural environment, I would like to add my distaste for Wal-Mart. They move into an area with their "low prices"
and put all the local stores out of business. There are hundreds of little towns in rural areas of the south that have been devastated by the arrival of a Wal-Mart. I have had business dealings with Wal-Mart and I will tell you they do bully suppliers. I had a shipment to them with the standard invoice terms of 2% discount if paid within 10 days or net invoice if paid withing 30 days. Well, Wal-Mart paid in 90 days and took the discount! PLus they gave me a hrad time when I called them on it! I have not shopped with them in over 15 years, and I plan on keeping it that way. The fact that they sell 40% of the DVDs sold during the Christmas buying cycle does give them clout with the studios, and that is unfortunate. However, I believe that volume could be made up elsewhere, so I am not sure that the studio heads would knuckle under. They have more and more been taking a long term view, so that may diminish Wal-Mart's clout. Let us hope so.

I'm not holding my breath on the Top secret features...it could have been a joke.
ALTHOUGH, Tiger included some features that were so top secret--like the exclusive dotMac widgets--that Apple couldn't even include them in the final release, so you never know! ;)
I think ZFS may be one of the top secret features. Now, maybe that's because I would love to have ZFS running on my Power Mac. However I did see mention of the kernel now implementing DTrace, an open source project that also comes from Solaris... if they took one, maybe they took ZFS as well..
Wishful thinking?

Only because the US were supplying the British and not supplying the Germans.
Like I said, I know that. But, if I am remembering correctly they were supposed to let the men get off the ship before the U-Boats would sink them. The Germans failed to do that.

Hum this is brilliant marketing.
The subscription price serves as an anchor price that makes you feel the regular price is cheaper, hence more buying are expected at regular price.

here's some of my speculation about this update...
While we don't know exactly how the Firmware update was designed, it would appear as though the update could simply ignore symptoms of a SMC short circuit to allow the laptop to continue operating. If this is the case it may degrade a MacBook's ability to detect true over-heat situations.
AppleInsider had previously reported that a new MacBook logic board was under development to eliminate the root hardware issue, but a release date was not known.

I just went to the Apple store and asked the dude there if he knows anything about when the new Macbook pros come out. He said it might be a while but it could even be tomorrow. They guy sounded genuine and I'm thinking if they wanted to release them tomorrow (March 16th); they would have known something by now. The other thing is that from the marketing point of view, I don't think it makes sense to release them before iPad. It's the first time iPad is being introduced so they probably want a strong initial sale to generate more buzz and momentum; they probably don't want people looking at a new Macbook pro when there's an iPad sitting right next to it.
Just my thought.
Just my thought.
