Skip Vista and you'll probably be a decade behind at some point.
And this would be the single point that consumers should think about when upgrading Windows versions: exactly what is Vista adding to XP?
From what I can see there's the promise of security that MS has been renewing ever since 1995, there's the Aero theme and there's DRM.
As for the new look on MS Windows, I can't see it as a reason to upgrade. Right now I have a Ubuntu box configured with XGL-Compiz, all the transparency bits, windows wobbling and all that... on a Celeron with a GeForce MX440 card. My Powerbook has nice windows and the Expos effects run smoothly on its hardware from 2003 thank you very much.
Regarding DRM, I'll pass. Really. I'm not is the US, so why should I be getting an OS that has been built according to the requirements of the MPAA/RIAA? I'd rather get Ubuntu Linux and then add media plugins that suit what I need to do, and choose them correctly under the context of portuguese law.
So, I ask again, what am I geeting with a new box of Windows? the same security improvements MS has been promising for the last 10 years, or security features sold as extras by MS to try and get some revenue from fixing the problems their own software design couldn't prevent in the first place?

If it's going to have a huge screen why not make it have a satellite based navigation system too. That would be handy...

Well, let's be real here. It is a shooter. The game is going to mainly entail traversing levels, and shooting the enemies in the way. By nature, it is going to be repetitive. I guess I didn't feel that though, given the variety in the way you go about this; On foot, in a Warthog, in a Falcon, with a Jet Pack, in a Space Ship, with a team, by yourself. I quite liked all the various levels, and the ways the game made available to finish them.
Yes, you are right, but the story itself, in the little I've seen of it is just more of the same, but I have not given up. I'm hoping to get back into it this weekend. :)

Well said. I have to agree with you.
Most friends and relatives bring up the clock speed and price. But when they see how the machine looks on my desk, when they step up to OS X and take it for a spin, they see why I could take a speed "loss" for all the luxury that Apple brings to the user experience.
Now, a lot of us rumor-heads are focused on bleeding-edge. And it kinda burns us that Intel/Athlon chips are closing in on 3GHz and we've just broken 1 gig. But we (rumor-heads) are the few, and PC marketing no longer seems to focus on speed. And I believe that Apple is slowly turing more heads out there.

Probably OK for everyday use, but impractical for computers used for image editing because of the smudges.

Some great composers, but Mc Cartney is not the sharpest business tool in shed. Evidence.... Michael Jackson & the fact he lost so much money waiting this long to license the music to a legitimate outlet. Allofmp3.com & bearshare, all the other peer2peer & preloaded ipods being sold stole from all of them big time.
MY friends all have complete Beatles on their mp3 players & computers. Cost probably nada. Whether it is right or wrong people will buy if it is easily available & steal more if it isnt.
SteveO has to be drinking the Beatles kool-aid to give an overgenerous deal.

It seems to me that the "something in the air" is all the speculation about what will happen on the 15th. The internet is full of predictions and excitement.
I predict some sort of touch screen UMPC device, an updated mactv box allowing 1080p and wireless itunes movie rentals, and blu-ray drives on the new iMacs, Macbook Pros, and Macbooks, along with an even sleeker design. Whatever happens, I'm confident I won't be disappointed.

Sigh, I dont like the way Apple configure models to get you to spend more to get features that should be standard.
512Mb RAM and a Combo Drive which probably costs them 50p

This Apple page shows much shorter serial number ranges that the original MacRumors article.
http://www.apple.com/support/batteryexchange/faq/
So which is it? The Apple page has to be considered official, but the MacRumors article would get me a brand new battery. :p

Good question. The FAQ you've linked to quotes:

While the actual recall site, https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/ (which is linked from the FAQ site) quotes:

I expect the dust will settle, eventually.

Apple added their own Flash player that only works with Utube. They had to do that or they would have been killed in the press, but still they have their own custom flash player for UTube video, but block all else.
Umm... No. YouTube on the I phone isn't flash. It's quicktime h.264. YouTube made their site work with the iPhone, and with flash. I have my MacBook set to use quicktime when I go to YouTube because Flash player for mac is so poorly written.

What time do you guys think the Keynote and new products will be on Apple.com (San Fran time)
I'm hearing it will be on Apple.com about 2 hours after the keynote.

Apple will become a cell phone provider. Period. That's it.
Thats a big expense and a very big risk. I dont think so.
What about stereo bluetooth headphones by apple with iPod adapters...

Apple saw the Blu Ray failure coming, so they didn't use Blu Ray. Can't they see that 3D has ALREADY failed?
3D movies and stuff were "popular" a while back, but not so much now. The 3D TV is a failure. I can't even see any uses for 3D on an iPad except for the occassional 3D movie, but I personally hate them because of the headaches, and I'm sure a lot of people do too.
What? Blu Ray failed? When?

I think people who say that no new iphone 5 is going to be announced are people who just got a verizon iphone and are on contract and so they hope that no new iphone comes out.

Huh? No one thought that the MBP at the end of the banner was a phone...
read this somewhere- not sure if it has been posted here yet. Seems like the MBP at the end of the banner has a different (thinner) speaker design than both the current MBP 15' & 17'
Here are some images of the banner, MBP 15 & 17

Ya, it doesn't have a nice 'Apple' look to it.
This is a concept drawing I did a while back .... I'm hoping the Apple Phone is more like this ... but I doubt it.

You've obviously missed the most important part of these concepts! *Notes Steve Jobs' number*
I actually remember you mentioning that. I should have screen capped that post.

I'm guessing they did that so they could use the same adapters for both. The laptop itself still has a 60W ps.
A shame really if true...the MBP power supply is pretty big and not that portable (compared to the old pbooks and even old MBs).

does anyone know exactly how much thinner the new nanos are? im sure it is just a few centimeters, if not millimeters but i am still curious.
A few centimetres?!? The nano's less than a centimetre thick.
I think it went from 0.65cm to 0.61cm. 6.5mm to 6.1mm
