No kidding -- kinda reads like the iPad comments from last year, except instead of six pages there are probably hundreds for iPad. Weird looking at those forum posts and not recognizing any of the posters and seeing some labeled as "guest".
I recognize Capt Crunch.
I really hope that the Classic stays until we have a competing 128-256 GB iPod with physical buttons for at least play, fast forward and rewind. Thunderbolt would be a very nice bonus.
Apple hates physical buttons. No Apple device in the past ten years has ever moved backwards in the drive to eliminate physical buttons.
Button to open laptop display? Gone.
Latches for batteries? Gone.
Trackpad button? Gone.
Physical buttons on the iPod? Six.
Buttons on iPod Touch? Two (Four if you count the volume.)
Buttons for ejectable drives? Never existed.
Dude, you will never again see physical buttons for these things on an iDevice itself.
Because iPod Classics use a standard 1.8" ATA-66 hard drive, they can be upgraded with the right tools. I recommend getting one now and upgrading the drive later if it gets too small.
Why buy new if you intend to void the warranty? This is something I'll probably do in the coming few weeks myself. I think 1.8" HDD development's more or less plateaued as well.

I have no interest in speaking into my device outside of answering a phone call or video chat.
Ive had a lot of success with the voice command Google app. 90% of the time it understands my voice command, and it makes searches super easy. In any case, if Apple adds voice command, itll be just that, and addition and not a replacement for text input. There are privacy and quite place issues where voice would be completely inappropriate.

Yeah, I said announced. Leopard has been announced since Macworld. That photo may have shown us the cover, but that is not groundbreaking and as nice as it is, as previously mentioned I'm sure it won't be the final disk label. In the words of MosDef, they ain't sayin' nothin' new...

But you don't get the wired keyboard/mouse if you do that. In other words, the $60 is really more like $100 with a $40 credit for the wired kb/mouse.
Isn't a wired keyboard required when initially setting up the computer?

Imagine this, if you will. The Beatles 8 gigabyte (or larger) iPod complete with the entire Beatles library. 3.5" touch screen in a yellow case. Is Valentine's Day far away?
Of course to each his own but I have never gotten why the Beatles are a big deal? I grew up around that era but don't consider them to be super great. Now I am for anything that adds content that people want so Beatles for that reason will be a good thing. I think of them as the original boy band at first that morphed into drugged out folks. Some of the stuff in between is OK.

Never had a classic myself, but I think for some people it works and depending on sales apple will decide if it is worth it or not to continue selling it.

Having watched the video I cannot describe how excited I am about the new FCP. Coming from working on a monstrous project this will save so much time with the new interface. I am so excited about the magnetic timeline, I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

I believe you are in the minority. I know many people who own Macs (either exclusively, or majority), and not a single one of them "tinkers" with their Apples. Also, it is a given that since the vast majority of games are released for PC only, there just isn't enough games to make an extensive Mac Gaming market. Lastly, motherboard makers (eg. A-Bit) make boards with BIOS features specifically designed for overclocking. I have seen Mac Overclocking, in consists of adding little resistors to the motherboard.
I am sure there are Mac Overclocker, Gamers, and Tinkerers, there just isn't enough (percentage wise) out of the market to cater to them.
I would venture to guess the a full 10% of the total computing market, consists of these hard core, overclocking, uber-geeks.
Another thing to consider: in the last 3-4 years, which of the Apple computer lines allow "Tinkering?" Only the PowerMacs, and PowerMac Servers. PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs, iPods are all pretty much "Set it, and forget it" style computers.

i don't understand why some people would long for 12 inch ones when macbook is 13 inches. don't tell me 1 inch will make that big of a difference.
That 1.3 inch is a huge difference, actually. When you are walking around a city every day and needing to stash your laptop in your bag, the larger MB gets annoying fast. The smaller and (lighter?) 12" is much nicer.
Further, the MB case design is not something that appeals to me- it's great for some, but the aluminum housing of the PB can't be beat. And, there is no way I am carrying a 15" laptop around in my bag.
The 12" PB is a wonderful laptop, and I would go smaller if apple made it (hi-res 11.4 widescreen?) As long as the resolution is high enough to do work on, I am happy

AGAIN, let me restate the following:
- Brazil has one of the most expensive workforces in the world - please don't think that the world's second-biggest Western democracy is the same as an Asian sweatshop - Apple or Foxconn are NOT going there because of cheap labor - it's a much more strategic reason, along with lower logistical costs;
- Upper-level salaries in Brazil are ALREADY higher than in the US or Europe, for reasons of economic growth and increased demand for skilled positions. A C-level executive in BR earns an average of $520,000, as opposed to some $400,000 in the US and Europe.
HAHAHHA are you retarded? Of all places with such high division of upper and lower class you are going to use Brazil when comparing to the US? C-Levels will not be the ones on the factory floor. Spend 5 seconds on google and you are going to see a much different view in terms of labour cost. In fact I'm a little disappointed you would even argue that cheap labour is not one of the benefits of Brazil. You must be out of touch. FYI monthly salary will be wayy south of $500/month. Hate to tell you this but Foxconn is the highest exporter in % of GDP for ALL of China (I think they proven their competency.).. and well...you are an arm chair president with tons of misinformation.

Extended warranties aren't always bad though - you think I want to deal with Sling if my Solo goes on the fritz? I was happy to pay a bit extra for the security of knowing I could go back to BB for two years (especially since reviews on Amazon have consistently pointed to issues shortly after the one year mark).
And I definitely wish I'd gotten it for my HDTV whose screen crapped out at 18 mos.

Same here.. my MB started shutting down after updating to 10.4.8 (and the fan firmware update I think) It would shut down when I would just start her up.. or, as you mentioned.. after several hours of use. I formatted the drive and reinstalled 10.4.6.. but shutdowns continued. Weird.I read somewhere that starting up produces an early peak of stress and heat before it settles down again. This might explain why it either happens very early on OR when the machine has warmed up generally.

The same washington post blog mentions in the next article that the default ("built-in") wireless cards in the macbook have the same flaw. So this is a bit bigger deal than a few odd people using external cards...

Are the new Nanos still going to come with the Samsung Chip? I hope so.
It's a shame that these $65.00 chinese 1GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not! ( linky: http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp022 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0wht1024mp029 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp031 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp015 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp035 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0pur1024mp033 )
The Nano with these features, plus iTMS, will withstand anything coming from Sandisk, MS, Creative, or the cheap Chinese imports.
Bring them on! My kids just can't wait. (me too) :)

For those that are unfamiliar with Wal-Marts business practices I recommend you watch Frontline's Is Wal-Mart Good For America? (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/walmart/)
It's a great documentary. You can watch it online for free using RealPlayer.

But you are right. Most who dismiss an entire catalog based on the year are not really listening. Any bass player alive today needs to study Paul McCartney (and many others too). Paul really did open up what a bass player can play.
Honestly, most musicians don't study the Beatles as individuals - nor do they need to - because they were just solid musicians, nothing spectacular. When you had Clapton, Beck, and even Townshend, there is no need to study Lennon or Harrison. When you had Entwistle ... no need for McCartney.
... and that putting aside the fact that in the mid 60's the level of musicianship exhibited by even average jazz players was far above anything rock players seen as 'innovators' were doing ...
