Now, a lot of us rumor-heads are focused on bleeding-edge. And it kinda burns us that Intel/Athlon chips are closing in on 3GHz and we've just broken 1 gig. But we (rumor-heads) are the few, and PC marketing no longer seems to focus on speed. And I believe that Apple is slowly turing more heads out there.
And I have to agree with you.
Apple is a business. They have shareholders that hold them accountable for their performance. They goal for them is to maximize profitability. To achieve this goal, apple has a marketing department. I know very little about marketing, but what I do tells me that the four P's of marketing are place, price, promotion, and product. My understanding is that "place" pertains to where you want to position yourself in the market. Do you want to sell high end, mid or low end? You get the idea. It is totally possible to sell a low end product, have less market share and still be more profitable than a company that sells high end and has more market share.
Bottom line, Apple does not exist to outperform pc's. They exist to make their share holders money. The original question was who should we blame? I am not sure that there is a problem. As one consumer, I would love to see macs outperform pc's, but before I am willing to accept there is a problem that will affect apple's profitability I would like to see a business case explaining how apple can make more money by fixing these alleged "problems". But, I really dont care. I use apple because i like it. when apple stops meeting my computer needs, i can go somewhere else, or do without.
Edvinow,l you do raise some thought provoking questions and I apprecaite that. My point was that just because we want more, doesnt necessarily means that a company's strategy is flawed. After all, you are dissappointed with some of what apple does, and they got your money didn't they :)

Just put a retina display into the next revision! The same PPI is not needed hence the greater viewing distance, but 1024x768 is noticeable after using the iPhone 4.

Well since Windows has about 95% of the market, which don't include the bootcamp users, I thinking a lot of people will be.
Whoz gonna "BUY" Vista....??
I am definitely not shelling out $250 odd dollars for WINDOWS VISTA!

They make cars in the US, and domestic cars are typically less expensive than foreign ones. This argument really doesn't fly.
Stop making excuses for US companies that build their products elsewhere. We CAN manufacture things in this country; we used to do it a lot more and the products were affordable.
My Apple IIe says "Made in the USA" on the bottom. It's sad that we never see that on computers anymore.
But do Americans REALLY want to be building laptops/ipods/ipads? i think society in developed countries such as the states has vigorously changed since 20 years ago.

Sorry about the MacBook Pro 'hoax'. We had got a few tips but didn't realize it was a concerted effort to make us look bad. We'll do better

Almost all developers live in a world where they code to specs and standards. Their code is then reviewed by other developers, tested repeatedly and then approved for implementation.
Apple's model isn't different from what most companies do internally.
Yeah, the point just flew right above your head. Just like 99% of the posters on this thread. This is not about others "reviewing" our apps. It is about the process itself. Do you know that Trillian (yep, the messenger) has been in review for 2 months now without a word from Apple?
Spending time, money, and effort working on an App, submitting it then sitting not knowing what is going to happen or when you are going to hear back from them is ridiculous. Assuming after waiting 3 weeks, they found a bug in your app. You know what happens? Even if you can fix the bug in 1 min? You are sent to the back of the queue for another 3 weeks. That is almost 2 months to get your app to the store. I know some dude who had his app approved after 4 months. A complete joke!
This developer that you are joking about worked on Firefox (yeah, that's right!) and firebug (one of the best FF extensions EVER).
You guys are funny.

Tell that to the soccer moms who insist on driving V8 Suburbans or Powerstroke Diesels.
My buddy's mom drives a V10 Excursion to go grocery shopping.
It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
Feel good about yourself right? That's her choice to drive her family in, not yours. I can't stand smug people. I have no need for gas guzzler to haul kids and material around, but if I did I have the personal liberty to make that purchase. Kinda like apple products, the more choices and configurations that there are, the more ideal they become for the many different types of consumers.

That's seriously not cool. For one, you're basically stealing someone else's replacement battery, since when they put in their number that happens to have a C instead of your B it's going to say they already sent the battery out. And second, when it comes time to return your defective battery don't you think they're going to notice it's entirely the wrong type?
Bad plan.

So if I go to Norway, stab someone because of some arbitrary reason. What would you want to happen when my defence is 'Well when someone disrespects me or my friends, we stab them, so in our culture, that's ok.'? Just let me carry on about my business? What if I killed your parents or someone close to you? Would you be ok with it because my defense is 'it's my culture to kill another person'.
I'm not saying that's the way it is, nor is it the way it should be. But that's the way it's going anyway because of lousy integration. Those who oppose multi-kulti in favour of a more structured and efficient integration policy are labeled as xenophobic racists who don't deserve to live anyway (thoughtcrime is death).

Yeah, I said announced. Leopard has been announced since Macworld. That photo may have shown us the cover, but that is not groundbreaking and as nice as it is, as previously mentioned I'm sure it won't be the final disk label. In the words of MosDef, they ain't sayin' nothin' new...

Well, atleast if it's not at WWDC, those things are likely to appear soon.

If that's all that comes out at WWDC, i'll be happy. I'll be happy if it's annouced and does not ship for a while too.

I don't know what people are fussing about. If these price points are true, Windows Vista is pretty cheap.
Remember, if you buy Vista, it'll most likely last at least 4-5 years before the next paid upgrade, unlike with OS X where if you want the latest and greatest, you're looking at an upgrade almost every year.
Vista looks to be a big jump from WinXP too, and seems a lot more mac-like. Complain all you want, but more competition puts Cupertino into a sweat and drives Apple into innovating even more. Support for Direct X 10 is going to be felt in about 1-2 years when people start getting DX10 graphics cards and more games take advantage of it.
At least with Apple you DO get the 'greatest'. Not so with Brand X I am afraid. How long has it taken MS to get a new OS out? Years! And if MS could charge for their Service Packs, by calling them something new, they would. But, their product is so full of bad code they cannot do it. Also, your view that MS's innovation "..puts Cupertino into a sweat and drives Apple into innovating even more." is a laugh. It might stop some of the bleeding in Redmond. Vista better be a success. Otherwise, the market share is going to shrink even further.
