iPod 3G was fully touch operated (save for the hold switch).
iPod 4G+Photo went backwards and added physical buttons. To this day they still haven't gone back to the full touch design of the 3G.
The 3G had separate, discrete, non-mechanical touch pad "buttons." 4G+ eliminated those and incorporated them all onto the touch wheel. For you to claim that those weren't buttons is like me claiming my microwave oven's keypad is fully touch operated. Each of the touch pads are a discrete element. I would have thought that was obvious in the context of what I wrote instead of having to be explicitly stated.

lol... Comments are priceless:
I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!

Where have you seen this before?

Yeah, I said announced. Leopard has been announced since Macworld. That photo may have shown us the cover, but that is not groundbreaking and as nice as it is, as previously mentioned I'm sure it won't be the final disk label. In the words of MosDef, they ain't sayin' nothin' new...

dumbest
argument
ever
you guys are arguing over nickels and dimes when it really comes down to preference. people who like os x buy it. people who like windows buy it. they dont sit and think about the cost difference between the two for the most part.
i thought die hard mac os freaks loved it for its functionality and stability, not its price advantage? and windows haters just hate windows no matter what. good for them. im a big whore and ill get the benefits of both. ;)
I hate Windows because I fight with it at work every day. Windows is why I have a Mac.
But the point of this thread is the debate over whether Vista will be reasonably priced at $399 for a full install set, vs. $129 for OS X 10.5.

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store can't be burned to a DVD or VCD that will play in a DVD player or Video CD.Ya and Im sure you wont get the nice DVD extras either.

So, I start listening to Security Now, move on to TWiT, end up listening to MacBreak since it began and am now into the iLifeZone as well. After all that, I'm still waiting for my first Mac. Kind of like hanging around the barber's shop - eventually you come out with a haircut!
I decided some time ago that my first Mac would be a notebook, then started waiting for the C2D in the MacBook. Looks like my patience may finally have paid off!
Looking forward to joining you all.

I'm not holding my breath on the Top secret features...it could have been a joke.
ALTHOUGH, Tiger included some features that were so top secret--like the exclusive dotMac widgets--that Apple couldn't even include them in the final release, so you never know! ;)
hopefully we do get some really good "top-secret" stuff. Time Machine sounds like the utility in windose xp called systen restore and Spaces sounds like Expos.

So, on Halloween my Macbook was returned to me, not bad considering it was picked up on 10/27. Apple replaced the bezel, heat sink and a few other parts on the white Macbook. They did not perform the most recent firmware upgrade, so I just did. Time will tell, but I'm most pleased with the rapid turn around time, and I must say the Macbook came back in pristine condition.
Well done Apple, I hope.

Good: Notebook is only 30 C
Bad: Fan blasting @ 6KRPM (really unnecessary, can't even use this in class without disturbing the rest of the people in there)
Your fans always blast at 6Krpm? That doesn't sound right. Have you tried resetting the PRAM?

When new products are released in a keynote like the one coming up, are they normally ready to ship?
It just depends. Motorola was notoriously slow at ramping up production of new chips. Consequently, Apple would release new hardware and buyers would have to wait 1-3 months to receive them. That has since improved since Apple got a lot of bad press from that practice. I'm guessing that you'll have to wait a couple weeks for conroe & woodcrest based systems and perhaps a month for merom.

Uh, isn't the world in 3D? I mean, we do see in three dimensions, correct? Is this a clever way of saying you are blind?

Having spent a fair amount of time living in a rural environment, I would like to add my distaste for Wal-Mart. They move into an area with their "low prices"
and put all the local stores out of business. There are hundreds of little towns in rural areas of the south that have been devastated by the arrival of a Wal-Mart. I have had business dealings with Wal-Mart and I will tell you they do bully suppliers. I had a shipment to them with the standard invoice terms of 2% discount if paid within 10 days or net invoice if paid withing 30 days. Well, Wal-Mart paid in 90 days and took the discount! PLus they gave me a hrad time when I called them on it! I have not shopped with them in over 15 years, and I plan on keeping it that way. The fact that they sell 40% of the DVDs sold during the Christmas buying cycle does give them clout with the studios, and that is unfortunate. However, I believe that volume could be made up elsewhere, so I am not sure that the studio heads would knuckle under. They have more and more been taking a long term view, so that may diminish Wal-Mart's clout. Let us hope so.

I'm not too sure how 3d screens work, but don't they devote half of the pixels to the right eye, and half to the left? If so, could you turn 3D off and have a double resolution retina display?

Why would you buy a huge HDD iPod, when you could get an iPhone or an iPod touch?
I've got an iPhone and a classic.
The classic is used almost every day solely for playing music. The iPod app on my iPhone is only used once in a blue moon.
I just think the classic is a much better music player and I'll carry on using them as long as I can. :)

I don't want OTA updates, especially if it uses your data allocation. I can see it being an option, but definitely I want to be able to opt-in to. I much prefer using iTunes, it just seems to make everything consistent.

Toys R Us? Seriously? What a bizzarre place to buy a tablet PC. I guess we'll be seeing them with the Fisher Price laptops.
