There is no real way of knowing unless you were to bug and spy on every single person who has anything to do with apple-at the workplace and at home. This means that it could be or it couldn't be. I find no reason for writing this post and anyone out there who thinks I make no sense-just tell me to stop.

Eso, I like the thoughtful work that you've put into this and that you're willing to put an idea on the table, especially with some consideration given to try and work around the 'popularity' argument which comes up time and time again when reputation systems get discussed.

However, in many ways, the metric of how many times someone gets a rumour 'right' just isn't that important to a large proportion of forum members, especially many long term members who have their own ideas about who is worth listening to on any given topic or not. Many of them might read the news threads to find out what's going on and what people are thinking, but rarely participate in the scrum.

Personally, if we were thinking of the reputation of people, I would rank forum members who actually directly help people out with technical, software and hardware problems and follow through, far far higher than someone who clicks on a button to express an opinion on a rumour.

Besides, many news articles may not be about rumours but instead might be about actual substantiated news, so it would seem pointless to employ opinions on these as meaning anything useful. Someone voting on whether a OS release is a good or bad idea hardly qualifies them to get a higher ranking than someone who doesn't vote.

    Another problem is this idea:

When the time comes that the rumor is confirmed true or false, MacRumors can award points to a user's "Reputation" based on their affiliation.

What if the rumour turns out to be partially true? What if there are currently no technical means to retrospectively award 'points' to almost half a million members? Is this where Arn and co should be spending limited time and resources to develop this system or would attention be better spent elsewhere on other forum and site features? Also, enabling contributors to clear their slate for $25 per year would make the idea of a reputation system completely redundant, how would you know who to trust?

Just from my experience, these are just a handful of problems with your idea that immediately come to mind. Keep the ideas coming, though.

Wow, you go out of town for awhile, come back to a hella busy store and now I have to deal with this? Your iMac shipped Ron. I am not going to tolerate allegations. Just look up my feedback on this site and ebay "rchammon". Yes, that is my store. Call the damn number and I will answer. I contacted UPS and their was a mishap at the hub. So I had to ride out their last night and repatch the label. Along with that and my store, I have had a super hard time keeping up with everything. But, I will stop and defend myself when I notice my integrity is being questioned. As for the HD it is on its way also. But, Ron, your iMac is on its way.

    Good Bye.

    Chad,

You have no right to get huffy at any "allegations" that I may have made.

You sold me an item and I paid you promptly, about 10 minutes after you notified me it was mine.

You didn't ship for over a week, despite owning a UPS store, and then sent me a bogus UPS tracking number.

You STILL have not sent me a valid tracking number, and this is now almost two weeks in. All I have is your word that it has shipped. After contacting another person you sold an item to and finding that they were waiting as well, naturally I was nervous.

I understand being busy. There is NO REASON for me not to have a tracking number within 11 days, unless it was a major emergency, however. None. I understand being busy, but being so busy that you can't mail a package at your own store?

If you had gotten on the forum and said "Ron, I'm sorry, I've been super busy and I made a few mistakes, I'm correcting them" that would have been fine. But to try and take the "How dare you question me?" route is ridiculous. You messed up. Period.

Can I PLEASE have a valid tracking number to show that my computer has shipped? It's been 11 days.

Once this is all cleared up I will happily post and let everyone know that the deal went through.

No SHSH for 4.2.1? No restore for you, that simple.

When firmware is no longer the most current, this is what happens.

    Get your SHSHs now!

It's just like how they don't allow At&t or Verizon to put logos on the iPhone. They invest a lot in design and they don't want anything to distract from it.

@jessica, how do you play 6th string then? i guess if its your thumb but that only allows one fret at a time.

I will be there before six, wearing a black FastMac t-shirt. I'll have 19 black FastMac t-shirts to give away to anyone who will be willing to wear it immediately.

My plan is to have fun in line, give away shirts, buy the family pack, get a shirt, then sit out in the mall and drink a Venti Starbucks while I upgrade my MBP with Leopard.

    Sam

    Thanks for the shirt!!!

I have two displays on my mini - the primary is a 20" Apple Cinema Display, and the secondary is a 17" Dell Ultrasharp somethingoranother rotated into the portrait orientation. I love the intense quality of the Cinema Display, and I've always liked having a portrait screen on my machine.

you seem very uncertain, I'd suggest you to pay a little $$ to let someone do the work for you.
Not long ago, my friend broke his iPhone screen too, he went to a phone repair shop inside the mall, and the Vietnamese technician replaced the glass for him for $50

I really hope this is not approved. We need more cell carriers not fewer. Personally I almost feel that they need to be broken up some more. US is already lagging way behind in terms of price vs services. About the only country worse than us is Canada.
Sadly I see AT&T killing off T-Mobiles UMA offerings instead of expanding it. UMA is much MUCH better than the microcell crap.
On top of that it is bad things for Android because AT&T will just lock it down even more and T-Mobile has been fairly open to it. Plus increase cost all around.

This is bad and I really do not want it approved.

Thanks for the link. It didn't quite explain to me how Stanford was using MPI for Folding Distributing though.

So has Stanford been treating all the users cpus as a remote processing units and distributing to them as a big collective supercomputer? It seems rather inefficient. I've always thought that they were breaking down the large task into smaller tasks that could be downloaded processed and then transmitted back.

What currently happens from what I can tell. is the work unit is downloaded. It is one smaller task as you put it. However, you will notice in your activity monitor that it runs as four different processes currently running. Plus an extra control process. For these to communicate with each other they have to use a local version of MPI. As they are different applications. The new method will be different as it will be written as one application. But separate threads. This allows them to communicate much more easily.

Thats my understanding atleast. Correct me if I am wrong.

How about you help me clean out my guttering, install my new home entertainment system or cook me dinner?

I am really sick of people expecting free work, what you are asking maybe a 20 minutes hour job (tops) due to the fact I work in Weather Graphic but relying on $10K of equipment, $45K HECS Debt for a university degree and over 10 years worth of industry experience...

Asking for someone to working without reparation of some sort is completely unreasonable and devalues what many designers work for (and that is money).

What most designers don't mind is pointing people in the right direction, critiquing or giving them references to work from, not actually doing it because you do not have the skill level or can't be bothered doing the work yourself.

Actually, if you use the official music videos (if available) and choose the high quality option on the converter sites, the quality is perfect.Well the official videos come from the studios themselves so why are they complaining?

okay so I did a local telnet from a client and I was able to login to 192.168.1.2 on ports 143, 993, 995 but NOT on ports 25 and 587. I guess this means the router is free and clear however I still cannot understand why SLS is closing those ports.

The mostly likely suspect is that SMTP is not running. There may be nothing blocking those ports, there is just nothing listening. Try the telnet from a Terminal window on the server itself to 192.168.1.2 and 127.0.0.1. If you can't connect, it may be time to debug your mail configuration on the server.

    A.
